Quick Summary
Google is introducing new AI features to its Google Home app, which include natural language video search and video feeds accessible on Pixel Watches. Although many features are initially available only in the US, they are expected to roll out to other countries soon.
AI Enhancements for Smart Cameras
Google is adding exciting AI capabilities to Google Home, enhancing smart home security cameras with new, experimental features. US users can opt into the Public Preview to try them out, while others will need to wait a bit longer.
One of the standout features is the integration of AI descriptions and Search Camera History. The AI descriptions provide detailed annotations for your video clips, and the Search Camera History feature allows you to search for specific events, like asking, “Did any deliveries come today?”
What’s New with Gemini in Google Home?
These new features are powered by Gemini, Google’s advanced AI system, with more innovative updates expected to follow.
Google also announced a forthcoming feature called “Help me create,” designed to simplify the creation of smart home automations. This tool aims to streamline setting up and managing automations, making it easier to handle tasks like “lock up at night,” “make it seem like someone’s home,” and “remind me to take out the bins.” Initially available to US Public Preview users, a broader release is on the horizon.
Additional Features in the Fall Update
The Fall update brings even more enhancements:
- Pixel Watch 3: Users can now receive Nest camera and doorbell feeds directly on their watch.
- Pixel Tablet: Nest doorbell notifications and a new “dream clock” screensaver that remains always on.
- Google TV: Various updates and tweaks for an improved user experience.
With these AI enhancements, Google is set to revolutionize how we use smart cameras, making them more intelligent and user-friendly.
